When? 14th - 24th February

Each year thousands of people trek to the remote mountainous town of Pingxi for this unforgettable event that culminates with the release of thousands of lanterns simultaneously. Traditionally lanterns were used in the past as a means of communication during war but lantern launching has become of symbol of peace and good fortune, with wishes written and placed inside before their release into the heavens.
